Foreign partners share their experience in implementing modern water resource management systems.

The Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey (UGS), Oleh Hotsynets, held a working meeting with a Danish delegation consisting of representatives of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Ukraine. Ihor Sheverdin, acting as Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Company, also joined this meeting.

Oleh Hotsynets presented an overview of the existing groundwater monitoring system in Ukraine and the components of the State Water Cadastre of Ukraine, highlighting the challenges of groundwater monitoring under wartime conditions. In response, Ms. Camilla Christensen Rai, Advisor on Water and Environment at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Ukraine, noted that Denmark has extensive experience in implementing modern water resource management systems, particularly in groundwater management, which supplies a significant share of the country’s drinking water. She also expressed Denmark’s readiness to actively support Ukraine in introducing modern approaches in this field.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to identify a list of areas for practical cooperation. These include, in particular, the continued adaptation of national legislation to the acquis communautaire, the exchange of experience in the introduction of modern software for data analysis and mapping, technical assistance in auditing monitoring wells, and the certification of monitoring laboratories. It was agreed to continue the dialogue during the next visit to Ukraine by representatives of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, scheduled for February 2025.
