Geoinform of Ukraine Advances Earth Observation for Mineral Exploration

09 December 2025

The State Research and Development Enterprise “State Geological Information Fund of Ukraine” displayed its work on satellite technologies and artificial intelligence for mineral exploration at the GoldenRAM partner meeting in Kuopio, Finland. The project, funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe, aims to create a modern European Earth Observation platform for exploring critical raw materials (CRMs).

The presentation highlighted Ukraine’s use of multi-spectral satellite imagery combined with geological data to map ore-forming processes and predict the location of critical raw materials. The Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey (UGS), Oleh Hotsynets, and Pavlo Bovsunivskyi, Acting as General Director of the Geoinform Ukraine, emphasized the importance of integrating advanced technologies into Ukraine’s geological sector and strengthening collaboration with European partners.

GoldenRAM is funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe and brings together leading European geological and innovation institutions. Ukraine’s partners in the project include Germany’s Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (Romania), and the Finnish state technology center VTT, alongside leading European mining companies, including the Barroso Lithium Project in Portugal.

Ukraine’s involvement in GoldenRAM will advance modern geological forecasting methods domestically, integrate Ukrainian scientists into the European research space, and strengthen the country’s role as a potential supplier of critical raw materials to the EU.
