21 March 2025

Geological surveys discussed their future cooperation during an online meeting.

A working meeting took place between the Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey (UGS), Oleh Hotsynets, and the Secretary General of the Association of European Geological Surveys, Julie Hollis. The parties discussed cooperation within European projects in the field of geology, as well as collaboration on knowledge exchange between geological surveys in the area of critical raw materials, in line with the Memorandum of Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and the European Union. The Director General of the UGS informed European colleagues about the implementation of the Ukraine Facility initiative and the Service’s key plans for the current year.

As part of the implementation of the Roadmap to the Memorandum of Strategic Partnership with the EU in the field of critical raw materials, the UGS, together with the EBRD, is working on launching the second phase of digitisation of secondary geological information and its publication on the State Geological Portal. The pilot six-month project with the EBRD has been successfully completed. The materials will become part of a “data room” and may be used by Ukrainian and international investors for analysis with a view to further nominating subsoil use sites for open tenders and auctions.

The Secretary General of the Association of European Geological Surveys invited the the Director General of the UGS, Oleh Hotsynets, to join a meeting of the heads of European geological surveys, which will take place on the sidelines of the European Commission’s conference on strategic mineral resources in early May 2025 in Kraków, Poland.
