The Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey Holds Working Meeting with Japanese Partners

Ukraine’s recovery and critical raw materials were the key topics of discussion during a working meeting between the Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey (UGS), Oleh Hotsynets, and a delegation of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine. The Japanese delegation included Deputy Head of Mission and Minister-Counsellor Yuji Tokita and Trade Attaché Tadayoshi Hiraki. The meeting was held at the initiative of the Japanese side.

Oleh Hotsynets emphasized Ukraine’s significant potential to become one of the global leaders in the extraction and processing of critical raw materials. He noted that Ukraine’s existing resource base and transparent procedures for granting subsoil use rights create favorable conditions for integration into modern high-tech value chains as a reliable partner for friendly countries.

He briefed the embassy representatives on the structure and mandate of the UGS and outlined the key priorities for the sector’s development. He also informed the Japanese side about progress in the digitalization of geological information and the procedure for conducting electronic auctions for special permits for subsoil use. Particular attention was paid to Ukraine’s interest in introducing advanced technologies for mineral exploration and extraction.

The Japanese partners noted that Japanese companies are showing growing interest in Ukrainian mineral resources and shared information about the rapidly developing drilling equipment market. They expressed readiness to offer Ukrainian enterprises modern drilling rigs and other equipment for geological works.

The Japanese side also reported that it is assisting to Ukraine for the rapid recovery and reconstruction of water supply facilities damaged because of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

During the meeting, the Director General of UGS expressed gratitude to the Japanese partners for Japan’s continued assistance and support for Ukraine in resisting russia’s armed aggression.
