11 June 2025

The Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey (UGS), Oleh Hotsynets, together with the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Yehor Perelyhin, held a working meeting with representatives of the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Ukraine – First Secretary Julia Robinson and Energy Adviser Tetiana Temniuk. The meeting focused on general opportunities for cooperation between Ukraine and the UK in the fields of geology and subsoil use.

Oleh Hotsynets expressed gratitude to the guests for the UK’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people in the fight against Russian aggression and its leadership in providing comprehensive support to Ukraine. He emphasised the importance of developing strong partnership relations. Participants discussed key stages in forming a national strategy for critical raw materials, including the development of Ukraine’s mineral resource base, international support, attracting foreign investment, and ensuring transparency and environmental safety in subsoil use.

The Director General of UGS highlighted the strategic importance of partnership with the United Kingdom, noting the historic 100-Year Partnership Agreement signed earlier this year between the two countries, which establishes long-term cooperation in security, energy, recovery, reforms, and civil society development.

The UK side, in turn, acknowledged Ukraine’s progress in improving transparency in the provision of subsoil use services, creating a favourable environment for investment. Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue. Meetings of this kind underscore Ukraine’s commitment to sustainable development, energy security, and integration into global strategic resource markets.
