Today, Ukraine marks Europe Day at the state level for the third time, alongside the countries of the European Union – a celebration of shared values, solidarity, and unbreakable unity in the struggle for freedom.
The European project emerged as a response to the tragedies of the Second World War and was created to ensure that such catastrophes would never happen again. The idea of unity based on shared values has not lost its relevance; on the contrary, it has become even stronger.
On this day, together with European nations, we honor the fundamental principles on which the European community is built: democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights, and the dignity of every individual. These principles are now facing a severe test due to the war that Russia has unleashed against our country and the entire European space. By defending our land, Ukraine is simultaneously defending peace, security, and stability across Europe. Our partners stand with us. The political, military, economic, and humanitarian support of the European Union is invaluable. We are sincerely grateful for this steadfast solidarity.
Europe Day is not only a moment to reflect on history. It is a day about the future, about the Europe we are building today – strong, united, capable of facing challenges, and ensuring a dignified life for its citizens.
Ukraine has reaffirmed its strategic European choice. We are moving forward confidently with reforms: harmonising legislation with EU law, strengthening democratic institutions, and implementing transformations even during wartime. Intensive screening processes are ongoing, and the dialogue between Ukraine and the EU continues to deepen.
Our shared mission is to defend and build a new Europe – even stronger and more successful.
Happy Europe Day, Ukraine! Happy Europe Day, united Europe!
